Here's the articles I was using today concerning the situation with Iran. Start connecting the dots and it's not pretty. First here's what Iran is saying. Here's what France is doing. From the Jerusalem Post concerning 600 missiles in Iran pointed at them.
Here's a little extra, concerning Greenspan and the 'Iraq war was all about oil' statement.
Finally, make sure if you didn't get those Hanna Montana tickets and you want to know why Alltel Arena continues to do business with Ticket Master. Then do what Larry Jegeley said, "call Alltel Arena and ask them why they use ticket master."

I promised the reports from General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker. Here's the generals and here's the Ambassadors. Finally the Democrats are shameless and nearly traitors in their trying to undermine the report from the General. Here's an article from the NYTs that shows they are working directly with the anti-war movement.
Tuesday we will remember 9/11. It's the 6th anniversary. Seems to me people have all ready pushed it to the back of their minds. I hope you will join me in remembering.

| KARN YOUR HOME OF THE HOGS AND THE FORMER HOME TO THE NEW VOICE OF THE RAZORBACKS |
| Tuesday, September 4, 2007 |
Did you get a chance to hear Chuck Barrett's first outing as the new Voice of the Razorbacks? As most of you know, Chuck resigned his position here at KARN FM 102.9 and AM 920 to take his new job with the University of Arkansas athletic program.
Chuck acquitted himself well. For the first time out of the box, he did an outstanding job. He did the things I like as a listener to football. Down and distance on every play. The score of the ballgame on every change of possession. The direction that the ball is thrown: "over the middle," "deep", "right side", etc. Excellent work. He was calm and cool as a cucumber. He didn't get overly excited on the two-yard dive play as some announcers seem to do. Chuck did a great job of picking up the intended receivers as the ball was being thrown. I was impressed.
My only criticism: I would have liked to have heard something like this, "Felix Jones at the 5, he's to the 10, the 20, etc. all the way down the field --- he let me know that the field was clear for Jones but stopped calling the yardage and then the next thing I heard, "Touchdown Arkansas!" Felix Jones is really fast but it seemed like warp speed to that touchdown. Again, I'm old school. I love to hear announcers describe 10 yard increments but other than that, Chuck was awesome good.
He'll only get better. He was especially good when you consider the turmoil surrounding his arrival as "The Voice." And considering that even though Paul has been gone for a full season now, Chuck was still replacing the legendary Paul Eells in the minds of those of us who love the Razorbacks and loved Paul.
Now, Chuck will begin to build his own legacy and he's off to a very good start. We wish him nothing but the best. And we're proud that the current voice of the Razorbacks is an alumnus of KARN. |

| NEW NOVEL HIGHLIGHTS THE RAZORBACKS |
|
First News with Bob Steel was pleased recently to feature author Bill Lancaster on his new book, "Benchwarmer." Bill is well known in Arkansas political circles and served as Chief of Staff of the Arkansas Senate at the State Capitol for 25 years. Bill has a background in journalism (he was a newspaper man for a decade) and has put his writing skillls to work in "retirement."
The fictional work is about a guy named Taylor Prescott who was a gifted Arkansas athlete who later becomes the state's most respected sportswriter and develops a special relationship with the head football coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, the legendary Billy Jack Wimberly. I told you this was fiction, right?
There are many similarities to Arkansas history with several liberties taken. Coach Wimberly is from another southern state but turns around a losing football program. Sound familiar? Taylor Prescott becomes good friends with the coach and their friendship goes beyond the football field. Sound familiar? In fact, the coach puts the Razorbacks into title contention in the Southwest Conference and there's a big showdown for the title and the national championship with none other than the Texas Longhorns. Sound familiar? President Ronald Reagan comes to the title game and it's covered by ABC. Sound kinda familiar?
Again, remember that all of this is fiction but for those of us who have been around for awhile, we see where Bill is getting some of his storyline. Bill makes it a great read with his terrific abilities as a writer. He told me on First News that this book had been "in him for a long time" and he admitted to writing parts of it all the way back to the days when he worked at the Arkansas Gazette.
Bill does a great job describing Arkansas people and how they think and react to the world around them. If you're a native, you'll love this book (regardless of your gender) and if you're not a native, most likely you won't understand all the real life Arkansas connections but you'll enjoy reading it as well.
The book has a surprise ending we won't reveal here --- you'll just have to read it. If you want more information about "Benchwarmer" it's published by Phoenix International Inc. and distributed by University of Arkansas Press. This fictional novel is available at many Arkansas bookstores or online at http://www.phoenixbase.com/
Our thanks to Bill Lancaster for his appearance on First News. He's a good ole Grant County boy who has returned home to Sheridan to write and he serves "in retirement" as the Director of the Grant County Museum. We hope he continues to write "in retirement" too! |
